The children in reception were treated to hot chocolate, a story (Stickman) followed by a practical activity making their own stickman, toasting brioche by the camp fire and lots of fun in our own woodland area, when the CommuniTree Initiative joined us.
We took part in a special video conferencing session with a first grade class in America. We sang Christmas songs and discussed our different weather! The children in Florida had just arrived at school in the morning, yet it was nearly our home time. Hopefully, we will collaborate with Mrs Egan and her first graders again later on in...
Last term reception class read Naughty Bus, a brilliant adventure story. They then created story maps, made their own buses (indoors and out) and loved recreating pages from the story like the breakfast table scene with real beans!! What a Naughty Bus!
The pupils at Holcombe Brook are very lucky to spend time each year with The CommuniTree Initiative at 'The Island', a forest school in Summerseat. As well as this excellent provision, we are now pleased to have our very own mini forest school area within the school grounds.

Stonehenge Class went for an Autumn walk to Summerseat Lane Park, to look for natural ‘treasures’. They filled their bags with an assortment of different leaves, sticks, acorns, conkers and pine cones, amongst other things.
Back in class, we discussed what we had found and every child completed the oral sentence ‘The favourite thing I collected was.......’

A few of the children in reception class have been playing 'Police Stations' over the last few days. they have been very imaginative, using timers as 'walkie talkies', calculators as 'tablets' and setting up offices. They asked if we could set up a police station in school so that's what we did!
The children is Stonehenge have been mastering reading, recognising and ordering numbers.
