Although problem solving is a regular occurrence in most maths lesson - we decided to hold our annual Problem Solving Week this week. It is always a favourite with the key stage two children AND staff!
There a five classes so each day the children are faced with a new problem to solve. From fidget spinners to footballers, code cracking...
We are so proud of our year 6 children. They have worked incredibly hard in the build up to their tests, completing their homework too.
Here they are carrying out some fun revision: murder mysteries, graffiti, checking through Mr. Bradshaw's weakly answered test, SPaG posters and using iPads.
You've all made a great start this morning. Keep it up!
we had lots of fun measuring, weighing, rubbing in etc today making our Brazilian Sequilhos biscuits to share with Big Ben and Eiffel Tower classes at our carnival on Wednesday.
Lots of maths skills used to make these yummy biscuits.
Golden Gate made the most of having the iPads and took photos of each others dabs: measuring angles using protractors, creating right angles, drawing parallel and perpendicular lines and learning more about the properties of quadrilaterals.
Grand Canyon have been learning about angles today. They measured angles all over their desks and investigated angles on a straight line, in a triangle and in a quadrilateral. Great collaborative learning by all!
In Golden Gate we used our knowledge of fractions, percentages and decimals to produce our bespoke designs. The children could paint any of the squares they chose but had to paint the correct number for each colour.
The children were incredibly focussed and have certainly grown in confidence with this aspect of maths.
This week we have been learning all about 2D shapes. We went on a shape hunt outside to try to find shapes in the environment. We spotted squares, triangles, rectangles and circles. Some of us even spotted ovals and hexagons!
Estimating is an integral part of mathematics and is a skill that we really like to develop in year 4/5. We even have our own 'Estimation Station' set up in the classroom. Well done to our first winner...
