The year 6 children have loved learning about The Lusitania – a boat that was sunk by a torpedoe fired by a German U-Boat. It eventually sank after 18 minutes and 1198 passengers tragically lost their lives (in 1915). The children have written diary entries, newspaper reports, poetry and flashbacks. We have also used the story by Michael Morpurgo, ‘Listen To The Moon’ to inspire some brilliant writing.
We then discussed how we might motivate soldiers during WWI. We listened to and performed speeches from Braveheart, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator and Winston Churchill’s ‘We will fight them on the beaches’ speech!
The children then wrote their own battle cry speeches and used a green screen to perform them! (2 outtakes at the end!)
