Historic Double for Team HB!

Participate in extra curricular activities

What. A. Night! After three previous gruelling cross country races – it all came down to tonight: the cross country relays.

4 girls and 4 boys were chosen based on their three scores from earlier in the month. They each had to run 600m around the black track at Bury AC and boy did they run! Witnessing each and every one of them cross the finishing line, almost collapsing, proved they really gave their all.

Both the teams were lying in first place going into the relay event, the girls were aware that 5th place would be enough, but the boys had to aim for the top two to guarantee that they would also be crowned cross country champions of Bury. A feat that no other school has achieved in the last 10 years.

The girls were up first. Rosa got off to a strong start and ended the leg in second place, Macy ensured the team were still only 10 metres or so behind the leaders, as did Summer, and Milly completed the race and managed to keep pace with the leading pack, ensuring a fourth placed finish and sealing the championship! Well done girls! Amazing!

Next up came the boys with Oliver starting powerfully and finishing in a strong 4th, Robert continued the good start and pushed through to second place, Owain ran the third leg and forced his way into the lead! Henry was up against a very strong runner from Chesham and was pipped to first place but that didn’t matter as the boys had done it! They had also won the championship! Fantastic achievement boys!

A massive well done to all involved, staff, parents and of course the children: a special mention also to the children who couldn’t take part tonight but had represented the school superbly in the other races!

Tonight also saw the year 3 and 4 runners take part in a taster race. All 8 children tried their best and they all coped well with the distance. Ella S came in 13th place, Joe was 10th and Ella K received bronze medal! Well done!
