Wow, what a great afternoon it was yesterday watching 20 of our year 5/6 athletes take part in the second of the day’s indoor athletics events. For the last seven years we have managed to finish in the top two schools in Bury. This is quite a feat considering around 30 schools take part every year.
This year, 26 schools entered and Unsworth had won the morning event. (A huge well done to their team!) The afternoon event contained 14 schools across three heats. Javelins were thrown, hurdles were jumped and batons were passed. The relay teams ran like clockwork and every athlete jumped, threw and sprinted their best yet. The Friday Fitness Club was time well spent!
The children behaved superbly and the support they showed for one another was great to see. High fives and chants aplenty!
At 7pm in the evening – which wasn’t much longer after I’d managed to get off the leisure centre car park -I received an email to let me know that we had made it through as runners up, 12points behind Unsworth! With both schools scoring just over a 1000 points!
Well done to all the team and thank you to the parents and staff: Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. McLeod and Mr. West for their support.
