Reception class is taught following the Early Years Framework.
The EYFS makes a crucial contribution to children’s early development and learning. We provide children in our Reception class with a rich variety of teaching and learning experiences that are appropriate to their needs and build upon the good work already started in Nursery. EYFS is about developing key learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating an understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social and emotional development
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Teaching is focussed to enable children to achieve their early learning goals. This will be done through first-hand experience and structured play. Children will learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.
Please see the main curriculum page for our phonics and reading scheme details.
