We use several key tools around school and in the classroom to help teach and develop core values and skills, along a pupil's Learning Journey at Holcombe Brook. Golden Gate class worked hard in maths today using their knowledge of factors and multiples. They had a number of cells ranging from 18-100 which had prisoners in. Guard number 1 turned the key in all multiples of 1, locking every cell, then guard 2 came along and turned the key in the cells that were a multiple of 2 (unlocking all even numbers whilst the odd numbers remained locked). Guard 3 turned the key in the cells that were all multiples of three, which meant 3 was locked, whilst 6 was unlocked etc.

This continued until all guards had been through. This left only a special set of numbered cells locked. They were 1,4,9,16,25 etc. (SQUARE NUMBERS!). The children have learnt from their factor spiders last Friday that this was due to them having an odd number of factors!
