Compete in a competition

What an absolute pleasure it was to attend this afternoon’s cross country meet at Goshen for all Bury schools.

We took 9 children altogether:5 boys and 4 girls; but we are hoping to take more after Christmas. Today was a chance for children to qualify to represent Bury at the Greater Manchester Cross Country event at Heaton Park in February and after many trials the following children were chosen to represent school today:Callum, Oliver, Liam, Hayden, Albert, Lily, Ella, Summer and Tahlia.

In order to be in with a chance to be part of the Bury squad, the children needed to finish in the top 12 and with over 100 boys and 100 girls running – this was always going to be difficult.

From the 9 children selected, 3 of them finished in the top half 12 with Callum 9th, Albert 12th and Lily 8th! It was lovely to see the parents cheering on their children and giving big hugs all round. All the children tried so hard and represented the school superbly – the other 3 girls finished in the 20s, Hayden was a brilliant 21st  and the other boys weren’t too far behind.

I’m excited to see how the squad develop and perform in the 4 races next March – along with other children that missed out today, not to mention how the three children get on at Heaton Park!
