Success for two teams!

On Friday we hosted teams from CC Walshaw in two games that were both played in the right spirit.

The boys – which had some players that had never played for the school before and in some cases for a football team before (but they have certainly earnt the chance) – were 2-0 down after the opening stages but never gave up and managed to turn the game on its head and win 3-2 thanks to goals from Liam, Jake and Daniel. Mr. Crawshaw, Mr. West and Mrs. Jackson were very impressed with their attitude, teamwork and effort with plaudits coming from all angles for James and Oliver, however, the man of the match was…Liam. ‘It was the best game he’s had for the school team!’ Said Mr. West.

The girls started the game in the opposite manner to the boys and were 2-0 up at half time, thanks to a brace from Lily E. The second half was very tight and it remained 2-0 for a further 10 minutes until Ezi smashed a left-footed rocket across the goal and into the top corner – one of the best goals I’ve seen for the girls’ team. Lily then added the fourth and her hat-trick (although she wasn’t allowed to keep the match ball!). Then two debutants, Milly and Amelia in year 5 and 4, both managed to get a goal-their first of many for the school. Special mention also to our brilliant goalie Amelie, who managed to keep a clean sheet, with some confident saves and great clearances   against many girls a year older. 6-0 in the end and a chance for them to prepare for the upcoming league games. Mrs. Hughes commented, ‘the way the girls worked hard as a team was brilliant to watch!’ Man of the match, voted for by one of our parents and one that I agree with, is Milly W. She brought a lot of maturity when she came on as a left winger, taking on players and passing it well into feet. Brilliant to see!
