The Rugby team took part in the BJSSA 8 a side Tag Rugby Competion.
Mrs. Robinson had been training the team since mid September and the squad had been very excited to play a match.
In their first game they were leading Summerseat by 2 tries to 1 but Summerseat snatched a late equaliser 2-2.
Their second opponents were Gorsefield who we managed to beat 4-2!
Knowing that the top 2 progressed to the semi finals, we were determined to overcome Springside to earn that right. However, Springside had other ideas and won the game 2-1.
We thought it was an early finish but found out we were still in with a chance having scored more tries than Summerseat.
In the semi final it was end to end but St. Joseph’s scored the first try. We followed up with the ‘try of the tournament’ (Springside Teacher). Unfortunately, in the dying seconds, St. Joseph’s and St. Bede’s scored the winning try.
Our pupils gave a very good account of themselves and Mr. Bradshaw, Mrs. Byrne and especially Mrs. Robinson were all really proud of their efforts, in a sport that some children had only just started to learn. They really did get better with every match!
We are looking forward to seeing the squad develop as the year progresses.
The children will be presented with 3rd Place certificates on Tuesday 3rd November.
Well done TEAM HB!
