What a game of football that was! Both Mr Crawshaw and I agreed that is the best team performance we have seen from HB! The last time Holcombe Brook won the league was when Kieran Trippier was at the school and with the results Tottington had been beating their opposition by, we knew it was going to be a tough task ahead.
We started brightly but Tottington scored on the break after just a few minutes. 15 minutes later and Jaiden turned sharply in the box and buried it low and hard into the corner after constant pressure down the wings. Arnie, Alfie, Theo and Oliver were all causing a lot of problems in the first half against their full backs but we just couldn’t get another goal. Half time came and it was 1-1.
In the second half it was a similar story. Tottington scored from a corner with a great strike from the edge of the box but time was still on our side. Tottington also hit the bar a couple of times but we felt we had one more chance in us. Charlie was driving the team forward and Oscar showed safe hands throughout. Max and Alfie B were immense at the back and didn’t put a foot wrong all game. Jaiden twisted and turned and got a low left foot shot on target that sneaked into the bottom corner.
Extra time came and it felt like momentum was on our side. Jake offered something different up top with his power and pace causing problems – two of his long range strikes were well saved but from one of the resulting corners, Arnie pinged it in and Charlie managed to get on the end of it and smashed it into the top corner. Charlie scoring the winner was the least he deserved after such a strong performance.
MOTM was Arnie – the opposition teacher said he was ‘electric’, which I thought was spot on! Special mention to Bodhi too who is such a big part of the team (as you can see from the celebrations!); always keeping the lads warmed up, motivated and he’s ready to come on in goal if needed.
A massive thank you to all the staff, parents, grandparents and pupils who all came to cheer them to victory! Well done boys, it was a proud moment to watch you all play so well and then enjoy the celebrations that followed – you’re a fantastic team!
