Bury Grammar was the venue this evening for four quarter finals and ultimately, 2 semi finals. Our opponents were Guardian Angels.
We knew we were in for a difficult encounter as some of our pupils play for the same weekend team as the opposition!
Guardian Angels started the brighter but our defence and Lucas in goal were doing well to keep the score 0-0. Holcombe Brook were rocked early on as their new right back, Harry Yates, had to go off injured after 10 minutes. James Hathaway deputised superbly and went onto have a very solid game.
Holcombe Brook seemed relieved to hear the half time whistle and used the opportunity to change formation and introduce Corey Southern for his debut. Corey was involved straight away putting in great tackles and super through balls but it was difficult to break down the solid Guardian Angels defence.
With only a few minutes to go, Guardian Angels made their pressure count and scored a well taken goal. Although Holcombe Brook tried hard to equalise – there just wasn’t enough time and our 9 aside season ends with a quarter final defeat. We’re still going strong in the 7 aside competition, however!
