On Thursday evening, 11 boys went to Redbank 3G pitch to play in a league tournament where the winning team would be guaranteed a spot in the next round.
It was a cold, wet and windy evening but the boys were clearly looking forward to it after a great performance last time out ( Super six! )
It was a nervy start against CC Ainsworth and we did well to minimise their chances, it looked like the game was destined for a draw but Jaiden struck a fierce shot across the goal that nestled in the top corner. 1-0
With the matches only being ten minutes, we knew that goals would be hard to come by, however, we really found our stride in game two when Jake put us 1-0 up early on. St Mary’s fought back to make it 1-1. We gambled with one at the back, moving Charlie into midfield and him and Alfie TQ were pulling all the strings whilst Max held firm at the back on his own. Oliver and Theo were causing problems on the wing throughout and Oscar and Bodhi performed superbly in goal (taking turns). Thankfully we managed to seal the result – Arnie bagged two goals in quick succession and Jaiden another. 4-1.
Game three was a decider with Lowercroft who had also won 2 out of 2. Their goal difference was stronger so we HAD to win to ensure a route to the next round was secured. It was a close contest and we missed some chances early on but Alfie B made a great run and was picked out just into their half. He was clean through and decided to shoot early – lobbing the goalie from 30 yards! We held on to our 1-0 lead and now wait to hear who we will face in the next round after Christmas.
Joint motm was Jaiden and Arnie. Great link up play and scored crucial goals when they were needed.
Thank you to the parents. All the boys did really well and I hope they enjoyed the extra friendly and penalty shootout at the end! The support with transport is really appreciated.
