During our forest school trips to ‘The Island’ in Summerseat, the children in year 4/5 noticed that the River Irwell has not yet been restored to its former glory, following the collapse of The Waterside Pub. They wanted to do something about it…
So, in English lessons they learned how to plan and write a persuasive letter and researched different organisations they could send them to. They really hope that they can persuade people to get on board and decided to make posters and video messages to enhance their message.
These videos were produced and edited completely independently in just one morning, on a walk to the river to take photographs. They were unscripted and the children took complete control, some children even asked adults passing by if they could interview them. Would you believe workmen from the FDA (Flood Defence Agency) were clearing trees in the Irwell and one of them kindly agreed to talk to us. However, they were removing trees not clearing up the mess.
Several budding reporters here I think!
