Athletics Successes!

Compete in a competition

25 year 5 and 6 children went to Woodhey High School this afternoon to compete in an indoor athletics competition with 5 other schools from our cluster.

The first half of the competition included a range of field events: speed bounce, javelin, chest push, long jump, triple jump and vertical jump.

We had some bronze, silver and gold medals won by the halfway point but we weren’t sure of our overall position as all schools seemed to have scored well with the above events.

Into the second half: we needed to be at our best with the relay races as the children were aiming for a top two finish. This would send us to the Bury Finals in February.

The events were as follows: 2×1 relay, 2×2, 6 lap parlauf, obstacles and hurdles relay and a 4×1 relay to finish.

The quality of our running was outstanding and the children showed a real desire to get to the finish line first – cheering each other on and high-fiving after races! A great team spirit was evident and many 1st and 2nd placed finishes led to a total points score of 258, with Greenmount in a close second with 238.

Well done TEAM HB! (Thank you to staff and parents for their support and to Woodhey staff and pupils too!)
