Bronze medals for athletes!

Challenge yourself physically

A squad of 23 children set out to Castle Leisure Centre on Tuesday to take part in the indoor athletics tournament. We took part in the afternoon session alongside 11 other schools and a further 14 schools took part in the morning. Some of our children did one event and others did the maximum of four but they were all still a valuable part of a tremendous team!

There were 5 relay races and 5 field events, with the competition running like clockwork thanks to the school games organisers and brilliant year 10 umpires from The Elton High School and St. Gabriel’s. We were also lucky to have a race starter from Bury Athletics Club who was very helpful to the children that were clearly nervous before the races began.

Following lots of trials at school, the team was finalised on Monday and all 23 gave 100% and managed to finish an incredible third place out of 26 and will receive their bronze medals very soon! Their behaviour and team spirit were both of a really high standard and I couldn’t have been prouder. A big thank you to Mr. Jenel for helping on the day and to Mr. French and Mrs. McLeod for helping with the trials. Also, thank you to all the parents for your support and to Abigail, who was in charge of taking photos for the afternoon – I’m sure you will agree that she has done a great job!

A huge well done to Bury Gammar and Hollymount for their first and second places respectively and to all the other schools that took part – whatever your position, your pupils will remember the event for many years to come, which is what it’s all about after all.Â
