A sense of well being and a ‘can do’ approach

We use several key tools around school and in the classroom to help teach and develop core values and skills, along a pupil's Learning Journey at Holcombe Brook. 'Learning Waymarks' shown here are specific items from these tools that are relevant to the content, or activity being reported. We add this information with the hope of strengthening these values and accelerating pupil development, both in the classroom and at home. On Wednesday we were treated to a visit from former GB and England Rugby League captain, Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls legend, Jamie Peacock! Not only did he inspire our year 6 children but we also welcomed Greenmount and St. Joseph’s year 6 children too!

100 children listened carefully as Jamie delivered his presentation linked to wellbeing! There were smiles, laughs and lots of children in deep deep thought as they learnt a wide range of techniques and strategies. They were also given a 30-day planner to try and work through which has come at a great time in between their SATS and the transition to high school.

At the end of the session, the children asked lots of sensible questions and answered Jamie’s questions maturely throughout! The talk also coincided well with our recent bus opening – The Holcombe Brook Mindfulbus – which the year 6 especially are very much enjoying!
