Year 6 Awards and Party

It has been such a tough time for all of our community but year 6 have missed out on so much:SATs, end of year play, awards evening and leavers’ assembly. It was so important for the children to have closure on their 7 years at Holcombe Brook and we tried to enable this, finishing on a high with a range of events.

All the year 6 were invited in for three weeks of teaching; during this time we set up a safe shirt-signing zone and invited photographer Stephen Redfern to take group and individual shots. The children all received a leavers hoodie too (thank you Miss Crooks).

The Hawley family had a great idea to send parts of a Dr. Seuss script to each child – they recorded it and sent it to the Hawleys who then created an amazing video which starred some of the staff too!

During their time in school, each bubble had 2 zoom sessions with Poet James Carter and they each penned a poem linked to a school memory.  They were fantastic pieces of work which James helped them to edit and improve too.

On Wednesday 15th July, the cohort were all invited to an evening to celebrate their success. We had an area for a silent disco, picnic, postcard task (written to future self), and cinema for 2 movie premieres (The Dr. Seuss film and a video containing photos from nursery to year 6!).

At the end of the evening, parents were welcomed onto the playground to collect their child and give them a well-earned standing ovation. Each child then received: an individual trophy for being a lockdown legend; a pen drive (thank you PTA) containing the two movies mentioned above; their record of achievement; signed shirt; certificate and a booklet containing all of the poems that the children had created.

Following this, it was time for our annual awards. Within the four categories, all children received a well-earned nomination. Here are the deserving winners:

Ross Walsh Shield: Tia-Anne Bridge & Summer Blainey

Sports Award: Ezi Yates-Obé, Lily Crow, Ella Sweeney, Liam Drysdale, Hayden Whitehead

Chris Wilson trophy for Individuality: Jake Gaskell, Gray Abbott, Toby French & Audrey Hawley

Progress Award: Ellie Crowley

A huge well done to all of our year 6-you really are lockdown legends and we are sad that you have to leave us. We hope we did you and your parents justice and we will hopefully see you again when you are all doing us proud as year 7s at your respective high schools.

All the very best and good luck!
