Holcombe Brook knew that to get through to the girls’ 7 a side football final, they would need to beat Lowercroft AND Greenhill – both of whom had already won 2 out of 2 games in previous rounds.
First up was Lowercroft. 10 minutes into the 25 minute match and the deadlock was broken by Nikita with her wonderful left foot. Two more goals followed from Lauren and at half time, Holcombe Brook were 3-0 ahead.
During the second half, Lauren scored another to grab her hat trick and the goal of the game was scored by Nikita; after watching the ball drop over her shoulder, she volleyed it and the ball nestled into the bottom corner. All the crowd from all three schools jumped out of their seats (!) and cheered a truly spectacular finish!
Lowercroft played Greenhill next and the score finished 3-2 to Greenhill after Lowercroft had led 2-1.
In the final game the girls knew a draw would suffice but they only had one thing on their mind – and that was to go out there and win!
Rosie had made some great saves during her debut in goal keeping the score 0-0. After 5 minutes, Summer picked up the ball on the halfway line, dribbled past one, two and three defenders and drilled the ball past the goalie. Sublime!
5 minutes later and Summer was the architect this time, threading the ball through to Rosa who had time and space to take a touch and sprint into the area. The ball bobbled up nicely for her to blast the ball across the goalie and into the top corner.
Greenhill pulled one back with a great effort that Rosie could do nothing about but we managed to hold onto the lead and progress to the final where Woodbank or St. Mary’s Radcliffe await.
Amazing team performance. Well done everyone. You were fantastic 🙂
