Following our final victory in the Bury 7-a-side final on Tuesday 21st we were invited to represent Bury at the greater Manchester games on Thursday 23rd June.

This was an opportunity that we could not refuse and despite not being in school during the day, the children, parents and staff showed great dedication to travel to Whalley Range High for a 2 hour tournament.

We knew that the opposition would be very tough. There were 8 teams altogether. Here are our group results:

Holcombe Brook 4-Bollin 0

Holcombe Brook 3-Banks Lane 2

Holcombe Brook 0-New Moston 5

We finished second in our group and went through to play the winners of group B in the semi-finals. It was a close encounter but we scraped through the game 1-0 against St. Joseph’s after a goal scored by Nikita.

The final was next and we knew it would be the stand out team in New Moston. The girls were tiring but Crispy Kreme doughnuts were helping them push on through (and the parents and staff!)

The final started and Lauren shot from some way out to score an early goal – 1-0 to Holcombe Brook! Could we do it?! Could we achieve the impossible?! The girls certainly believed so and really gave it their all. Sadly, New Moston stepped up the pace and with three girls supposedly at Manchester United, we found it difficult to contain them. The final score was 5-1, but we are immensely proud of these 8 girls that are officially…THE SECOND BEST TEAM IN GREATER MANCHESTER! Wow!
