In Year 4/5 we are continuing to read the amazing A. F. Harrold book ‘Fizzlebert Stump’. In English lessons our work has been based on the chapters read so far with activities such as drama and role-play, character descriptions, chapter predictions, text-marking and identifying how the author addresses the reading (including his brilliant use of brackets!). The work produced has been of a very high standard and behaviour for learning has been excellent in each and every lesson. As a treat for their hard work, Mrs Lynchey bought the class a signed and personalised copy of the book – the message inside made everyone laugh! ?Â

I love A.F. Harrold’s books because I love how at the start of a new chapter he writes a sentence saying ‘in which’. I also love he puts brackets within brackets!! My favourite character is Fizzlebert Stump because he is very unique and has a polite attitude. I wouldn’t like to live in a circus because if my mum was a clown (like Fizzlebert’s) she wouldn’t take my life seriously and all she would do is fool around.

Great comments Harriet – I also like the brackets within brackets – you really have to think about the sentence, don’t you? Make sure you have a word with your mum in case she is thinking about a career change!
I like the Fizzlebert stump book because it is very funny and I really like the synopsis. My favourite character is Fizzlebert because he is very brave going into the Stinkthrottle’s house and putting his head in a lion’s mouth.
You have been working really hard in these lessons Lewis, we have all noticed!!
I like the book because he uses synopsis at every chapter also he addresses the reader. I also like this book because he makes your feelings go up and down (sad to happy).
I love fizzlebert stump the boy who ran away from the circus (and joined the library).i can’t wait for all the other books????
I love the Fizzlebert Stump story because it is really funny and A.F Harold makes you picture the characters and settings in your head. I hope I get to read his other books later!
I like the Fizzlebert stump book (By A.F. Harrold). My favourite character is Fizzlebert Stump because he is always eager to do fun things and he is very brave. Also, he informs the reader at the start of a chapter and also I love the way he builds the story up so you are on a cliffhanger at the end of a chapter. I have really enjoyed reading the book and studying the author himself. He is a very very funny author!!??I can’t wait to read his other books!!?
Rose ???
I’ll bet he would be interesting if we could get him to come to school and visit us Rose!
