Compete in a competition

On Saturday 25th June, 17 children from year 3-6 represented the school superbly at the Bury Athletics Competition on Market Street running track.

There were 18 schools taking part in the many events offered. Field events included: shot putt, long jump and javelin. Track events included: 60m and 75m sprints, 4x100m relays and 600m.

Each event consisted of 3 heats and the top 2 in the short distance races made it through to the exciting finals at the end of the morning.

The atmosphere was something very special with the staff, parents and children all getting behind Team HB! As more and more children made it through to the finals – and in some cases onto the podium – we realised we may have a chance of winning the 58-year-old competition, one which we have only won once before in 2011.

The final results were:

In third place…Bury Grammar.

In second place…on 58 points…was Hollymount.

And the winners….on 60 points….was… Holcombe Brook!

Well done to all of the children for an immense team effort!

NB Apologies if I didn’t get every child on the photographs but the iPad was hidden away during the rainy spells!
