12 children from year 3 to 6 went to Bury Grammar’s swimming pool on Tuesday afternoon to take part in a gala. The following pupils took part: Ella K, Mason M, Isobel Y, Lizzie M, Robert A, Jacob H, Lewis M, Arabella Y, Nathan R, Dylan R, Alicia H, Esme D.
They took part in individual races and various relays too. There were 11 other schools there and a brilliant atmosphere was created.
The children all tried their best and represented the school superbly. We seemed to win the majority of our heats and found out that the following swimmers made it through to their respective finals. (Final position in brackets).
Back Stroke- Jacob (Bronze), Nathan (Bronze), Arabella (Bronze), Lizzie (Gold!)
Front Crawl – Jacob and Isobel (Silver)
Breast Stroke – Robert (Bronze), Isobel (Gold)
This was the first time in many years that BJSSA have organised a Swimming Gala and it really was a great event. The final positions were read out to us, it was clear that Bury Grammar had won the tournament due to the number of finalists they had. We had a feeling we could be in the top 5. Second place was Hazelhurst and only one point behind them in third place was….Holcombe Brook!
Brilliant achievement! Well done to all involved and thank you to Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Byrne for helping with transport and cheering the children on.
Future events – Girls’ Football Final (Tuesday 21st June at Woodbank vs . St. Mary’s.) Bury Athletics (Saturday 25th June AM)
