I couldn't have been prouder of our class, last week, who visited the Bolton Museum as part of our Egyptian studies. They were so clued-up, showed impeccable manners and squeezed every last drop of canopic juice from the experience.
Reception class have been learning about African-American artists, Alma Thomas, for Black History Month. They created collage and watercolour paintings in the style of Alma Thomas.

In Design and Technology, Y4 have made some amazing Egyptian mummy clay models and designed coffins for them. Here are some photos of our awesome models.
Wow - don't you think they're really nice? I like how they all have different styles to them. We did the mummies and coffins because we have been learning...
Today, Taj Mahal were tasked with building a safe cave to live in, using only materials from the Stone Age.
I think they did a pretty good job at staving off (and in some cases, taming) the wolves, don't you?
The children in Niagara Falls class produced some excellent work last term and showed empathy and maturity during our World War II topic. Our English lessons were based on the powerful and moving picture book 'Rose Blanche'. In humanities children learned about the impact of war in Britain, the blitz, evacuation and rationing (which also facilitated some great maths...
After learning about the Egyptian Pyramids, children were given the task of creating an animated report using an iPad and our newly purchased 'phones'. In a class of 30 children, with half of them audio recording at the same time, these are an excellent tool to minimise background noise.
The computing skills used and progress across the afternoon was outstanding...
As part of our school wide project, celebrating 50 years of Holcombe Brook, the children in y4/5 have been looking at real sources (a school log book from the 1970s & 80s, photographs, emails and a newspaper article) to learn more about events of the past.
They were shocked to discover that there was a fire in school in 1983!...
This week we remember all of the servicemen and women who have lost or risked their lives in wars. Poppies are being sold in the hall at break time and most classes will take part in a minutes silence on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.
We would love to give all Holcombe Brook children...
Great excitement on the bus to Bury! Then a very creative craft lesson making a 3D castle, followed by an interesting walk around Bury to see the castle, market place, church etc.
Lots of interesting things to do
Children in year 4/5 were asked to bring in any artefacts or pictures from home related to our theme of 'War & Peace'. The response was overwhelming and they enjoyed sharing photos, documents, items and stories about family members who served in World War 2. This really inspired the children to write to the best of their ability and...
Thank you to one of our pupils in Niagara Falls who used her homework PowerPoint to teach the rest of the class about clothing worn in Tudor times and how this was very different for rich and poor people. Also, thank you to our volunteer Tudor clothing models!
The homework produced during our Tudor topic has been fantastic! From wonderful Tudor menus, jewellery and board games to creative castles and torture equipment, the standard really has been superb. Well done!
The children in Niagara Falls class had a terrific time at Bramhall Hall in Stockport. They learnt all about Tudor life and took part in lots of enjoyable activities.
